The Stationary Shoulder Friction Stir Welding (SSFSW) Tool is an innovative FSW solution in which the shoulder remains stationary while only the pin rotates during welding. This separation of shoulder and pin allows the tool to weld at any joint angle — including T-type welds, fillet welds, and complex multi-angle configurations. Compared to conventional FSW, SSFSW delivers significantly lower heat input, a more uniform thermal gradient through the material thickness, and superior surface finish with no flash or thinning. It is especially suited for welding aluminum alloy thick plates, magnesium alloys, titanium alloys, and other materials with low heat transfer rates. AEE has developed SSFSW capabilities across a broad range of angles and materials, with applications spanning rail transit, aerospace, and new energy vehicle components.
