The Retractable FSW Tool is specifically designed for retraction friction stir welding applications where weld integrity and keyhole elimination are critical requirements. Unlike conventional FSW tools, the shoulder and pin operate independently, allowing precise control of the pin's vertical movement throughout the welding process.
As welding approaches completion, the pin is gradually retracted into the shoulder under machine control, enabling the plasticized material to fill the exit hole and completely eliminate the weld keyhole. This innovative design produces fully sealed welds with enhanced structural integrity and superior surface quality.
