Bobbin FSW Tool
- Top and bottom surfaces of the workpiece can be welded simultaneously
- No rigid backing support required on the reverse side during welding
- Fundamentally eliminates lack-of-penetration and root defects
- Solves the incomplete penetration problem of traditional FSW
- Enables welding of cavity/hollow profiles
- Especially suitable for splicing long straight hollow profiles and barrel longitudinal seams
- A self-supporting welding technology that complements conventional FSW
- Successfully applied in multiple domestic rail transit train projects
The Bobbin (Multi-shoulder) FSW Tool is an advanced friction stir welding tool based on Bobbin self-supporting welding (BFSW) technology. Unlike conventional FSW tools that require rigid backing support, this tool features dual shoulders that simultaneously weld both the top and bottom surfaces of the workpiece in a single pass. This unique design fundamentally prevents lack-of-penetration and root defects commonly associated with traditional friction stir welding. Compatible with common and high-strength aluminum alloys, the tool is especially suited for splicing long straight hollow profiles and longitudinal seams of barrel structures. AEE has successfully developed and applied BFSW technology across a wide range of domestic rail transit applications.
